Turks and Europe: The siege of Malta

After the XV century disastrous defeats, the Christendom continued to run away from the Turks of Suleiman the Magnificent both in Balkans and in Mediterranean area. In 1521 Belgrade fell, in 1522 Rhodes surrendered, in 1526 with the battle of Mohàcs, Hungary was invaded and, in 1529, Vienna was besieged. In 1541 The Christian armies were beaten in Buda, and in 1560 in Gerba. In 1565 Suleiman wanted to arrive in Rome and to succeed in doing it he decided to siege Malta, but the eroic resistance, sometimes at the limit of credible, of the Knights Hospitallers of the Order of St. John (the Knigths of Malta commanded by Grand Master Brother Jean de la Vallette) upset the sultan's projekts.
