Nazism and Church: von Galen and Pius XII

The bishop of Münster, in Germany, the Count Clemens August von Galen (1878-1946), was defined «the Lion of Münster» because of the strength of his position against Hitler. But, even if he is a great figure of pastor, von Galen represents no more than the continuous and ordinary struggle of the Church against the national socialism; a strenuous resistance that has in Pius XII the greatest «defensor civitatis».
On 9 October 2005, Benedictus XVI proclaimed Blessed of the Church the bishop Clemens August von Galen.
