1st World War: Charles I of Habsburg Charles I of Habsburg (1887-1922), the last Emperor of Austria-Hungary: such a great figure that it is worth studying him in depth. The first world war, «The Great War» that he opposed for what it destroyed and for its aims, deeply scared his short reign. Arose from this the hate of the twentieth century ideologists against the sovereign that represented the catholic Europe.
