Il 15 febbraio 1944, uno dei luoghi più ricchi di arte e di storia, uno dei luoghi più importanti per l'intera civiltà veniva ridotta in macerie da un durissimo bombardamento aereo delle forze alleate.
L'abbazia benedettina di Montecassino, nella sua storia millenaria, aveva subito altre tre distruzioni. Queste erano avvenute ad opera dei longobardi (nel 577), dei saraceni (nell'883) e del terremoto del 1349.

On 15 February 1944, an area rich of art and history, one of the most important place for the whole Civilization was reduced to ruins by a massive Allied air raid.
The Benedictine Abbey of Montecassino, in its thousand-year history, had suffered three other distructions. Those happened because of Longobards (in 577), the Saracens (in 883) and an earthquake in 1349.
