Le Catacombe
Le catacombe sono gli antichi cimiteri sotterranei, usati sia dalle comunità cristiane sia dalle comunità ebraiche, soprattutto a Roma (da qui l'espressione "ad catacumbas", cioè presso le cavità della via Appia). Le catacombe cristiane, che sono le più numerose, ebbero origine nel secondo secolo e lo scavo continuò fino alla prima metà del quinto.
The Catacombs
The catacombs are the ancient underground cemeteries, used by the Christian and the Jewish communities, above all at Rome (that is why term "ad catacumbas", namely near the cavities of old "via Appia"). The Christian catacombs, which are the most numerous, began in the second century and the excavating continued until the first half of the fifth.
